Over the past two years HTC have established themselves as one of the leading players in the smartphone world. It now look likely that we will see some new models announced in February at an event that is being organised by HTC on the 26th, one day before the annual MWC convention when new models are normally announced.

There are rumours that the big announcement from HTC will be the release of their first quad core smartphone device. It has already been reported that the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 will incorporate this kind of chipset so it is no great surprise the HTC are planning the launch of a similar model. There is speculation that the premium device that will be unveiled will be the HTC Edge. The quad core processor is said to be clocked at 1.5Ghz which will also make the phone one of the fastest available. HTC are not alone in planning a major event just ahead of the MWC, both Sony and Huawei have confirmed for the same day and Samsung are rumoured to also be planning an event of their own.

These two devices were launched at the end of 2011 and have so far proven a great success with the public. One reason why these models are so popular is because HTC have focused on the audio features, an area that if often neglected by many manufacturers. Both of the handsets use Beats Audio technology, an audio enhancement facility that has been developed by US Hip Hop star Dr Dre.
